Fasting in the month of Ramadhan is one of the four obligatory fasts in Islam.
There are two reasons why Ramadhan fasting became an obligation:
First, Allah has obligated fasting since the beginning, from the first ummah until now, as written in Al-Quran. And if this obligation comes form Allah, then it is compulsory for us to obey completely
Second, fasting Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam that we are obliged to obey, to prove our faith as muslims
and for any muslim who rejects the fasting of Ramadan, their faith in Islam is clearly questionable.
