PALEOZOIC ERA: BOOK 3
542 million - 251 million years ago
piano level: early intermediate - intermediate

Paleozoic means ancient life. This era began with a spectacular burst of new life called the Cambrian Explosion. Trilobites became abundant, and the oceans filled up with invertebrates of many types. Fish evolved and the first seed plants colonized the land. Giant swamps produced massive bugs including hawk-sized dragonflies and 10 foot millipedes! Amphibians emerged, and breathing was necessary as reptiles became the first vertebrates to reproduce on land. The super-continent Pangaea formed. However, this era ended in a massive event called the Permian Extinction. Planet temperatures
became extreme, turning the climate dry. The majority of species went extinct. But hope was around the corner!
