Описание к видео Scientists are hoping to prove a COVID-19 vaccine works in 12 to 18 months

The International Vaccine Institute Director General estimates scientists working around the world will be able to prove an effective COVID-19 vaccine and will be available in 12 to 18 months.

Dr Jerome Kim said it's a remarkable achievement to have human trials in two months as typically, vaccines take 5 to 10 years to develop, 'but these are not usual circumstances'.

Before a vaccine is developed, scientists have to make sure that people recovering from COVID-19 infection have antibodies that can protect them against further infection, he said: "That would raise some hope that we should be able to develop a vaccine."

He also stresses the importance of vaccinating a good part of the world's population: "It requires international cooperation", Kim said.
