When I was presented with the idea of having a Studio Ocean Mark UAE Custom Reel, I thought it was too good to be true.

What would you do if one of the best reel manufacturers in the world asked you to help them build a reel?

Well...here's my try on this.

It all started with a question - if you were to build a reel through us, what would you choose, and what changes do you want in the reel? So from there, countless hours were spent thinking of what I could put in the reel that would set it apart functionally - not visually...and we arrive to a pair of reels that I present on this video. Both these reels are aimed at big fish for both our domestic and international fishing. The L100 is big enough to handle tuna, in fact, it is made for it , which compact in size, it is not by any means weak or lacking in capacity - the engineering, top notch.

Both the company and I agree that for slow jigging, you want a reel with a wider spool - the L100 is the only reel that has a wide spool, the L80, is a narrow L100. Narrow spooled reels are best for fast jigging because while you are fast jigging, you have very little or no chance to level the line, you can still do it with slow jigging - having a wider spool gives you better drag curves on slow jigging as well - which is the main reason why a wider spool is desired. But why are most slow jigging reels narrow spooled? Good Question - the answer is two fold. it is often hard to have a wide and a narrow version even if the fishing calls for it - simply because its another added cost. People will use whatever is available so even if companies make something that isn't 100% to spec, people will use it. Second is the user part - companies are making it easy for people to use, not really depending on them to learn how to use things properly - this has something to do with people buying and staying in the game - so you make things easy for people...skills like leveling the line is easier on narrower spools than on wider ones - a VERY simple thing - but not a lot of people can actually handle well.

In any case, the L80 and L100 is the same sized reel with different spool widths, which is practically why I chose these reels for this.

If there was a L70 and an L50, it probably would have been it, but I have to admit, they might be too small for deep water fishing, so I believe, choosing the L80 and L100 is the right thing for what I had in mind - hunting big tuna on fast and slow jigs, or even live baiting with the L100 PW - possibilities are endless and quite frankly - only limited by your imagination on how to use these reels, I just made a platform where you don't have to worry about things breaking on you when you have that big one on - how to use it, depends on you and I am not the type of person who would tell you how to make your sandwich.
