In this instalment I wanted to revisit a mysterious station. One that was classified as a numbers station and who’s purpose was revealed, but one that confused listeners just over a decade ago when it appeared on the bands with a familiar voice.

The voice would repeat ‘What the hell are you reading books for.” Token said that the station sounded like a recorded loop of Homer Simpson from the TV show The Simpsons, saying “What the hell are you reading books for?”

What wasn’t known at that time was the Homer Simpson transmissions were related to some prior unusual oddities that were noted on May 17th, 2012. They may have been first heard on November 5th, 2011, on 21450.7 kHz.

A listener heard a broadcast on 6990 kHz, at 0041 UTC on May 17th, 2012. A male voice said "She had your dark suit in greasy wash water all year. Don't ask me to carry an oily rag like that. They used an aggressive policeman to flag thoughtless motorists".

The numbers and oddities website in 2013 had somehow managed to identify these strange transmissions and claimed that they were used for the training of signals intelligence operators.
