Basic effective lapping can be done at lower cost using Clover grade C silicon carbide lapping about 220 grit. on a cast iron lapping plate, good for general machine shop needs. The Clover compound is of a soft grade silicon carbide that breaks down rapidly to finer particles making lapping with a single grade compound much easier as I demonstrate in this episode of too big machines in a too small shack.
Also, taking a new lapping plate and charging it with compound and breaking it in.
