Here's an Adelaide Hills producer that flies under the radar a little, but we suspect not for much longer! The Hersey Vineyard is located in the southern Adelaide Hills, in a subregion called Kuitpo. It was planted by Pam Dunsford, the first qualified female winemaker in Australia in the early 1990s. The vineyard was sadly abandoned for many years, until the Hersey family reinvigorated the vineyard and the first crop was picked in 2014. The Herseys currently grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, while sourcing small quantities of Pinot Gris and Merlot from friends’ high quality vineyards in the Adelaide Hills.

The wines are made by Jono Hersey and his best mate Damon Koerner who have worked together since 2011. The pair make the wine meticulously, with the utmost precision and passion. All wines follow a similar philosophy; picked early to retain natural acidity, wild yeast used for fermentation, and plenty of love. The results speak for themselves.

Clos Kuitpo is the leading Chardonnay from the estate - a wonderful wine that expresses modern Adelaide Hills chardonnay in a sleek yet powerful form. Grilled hazelnut, white peach, nectarine and lemon balm are the main flavours, with ample weight and power. Fresh & clean, this is a really impressive wine.
