Engage in the Mutual Aid Movement

Описание к видео Engage in the Mutual Aid Movement

Although the words “mutual aid” have been around for generations, COVID brought into high relief the critical need of fulfilling real-time needs directly by the community, for the community. Today, those lessons of proximate giving – both financially and beyond - are gaining traction as a distinct style of activism, filling gaps local and municipal government can’t or won’t.

In this session, participants will receive an overview of the current mutual aid movement, followed by case studies to gain a deeper understanding of the vital impact mutual aid can have in a region. We will explore how mutual aid can be a bridge into a larger, longer-term commitment to action for collective givers and question how you might embed mutual aid into your collective giving strategy.

Speakers:
Jenice Fountain of Yellowhammer Fund
Kathleen Murphy Toms of Todo Para Todos
Payton McDonald of The Elements of Mutual Aid

This session was recorded in May 2024 during the fourth annual We Give Summit.
