Throughout the last two weeks, Wine-Searcher's Wine Director, David Allen MW has been visiting many fabulous estates throughout Bordeaux as part of the en-primeur tastings for the 2024 vintage. As he gets time he is publishing video tastings to allow him to share his thoughts about these wines. Here he tastes a little-known wine from Pomerol the tiny 3 hectare chateau of Saint Pierr to taste their 2024 vintage wine.

N.B. I've since learned that the church here in Pomerol that I always understood was the church of St Pierre is actually called the Église Saint-Jean, sorry to mis-inform you.

The house and vineyards of Chateau St Pierre are located next to the Église Saint-Jean, the appellation's historic symbol. Fruit is sourced from a handful of small parcels on the plateau, with other plots currently being renovated; soils are sandy gravels particularly rich in iron. Plantings are approximately a 75:25 split between Merlot and Cabernet Franc, though the blend of the wines tends to be closer to 90:10.

Individual vineyard plots are carefully analyzed and farmed sustainably, and then vinified separately; grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. The wine is aged for 15 to 18 months, mainly in oak barriques with around 60 percent new wood. In some recent vintages a component was aged in amphorae.

Château Saint-Pierre is owned by the Pradel de Lavaux family. Other properties in their portfolio include Château Martinet and Chateau Bellevue in Saint-Émilion, and Château La Renaissance in Pomerol.
