The Story of One of Banadir's Notable Doctors | Dr Abubakar Mohammed Buho

Dr Abubakar Mohammed Buho, one of Banadirs refined doctor, born in Barawa and received his education in Mogadishu and then Russia. In this episode he discusses his career as a doctor, his journey and the challenges he faced. He talks about his time in Russia and events in Somalia that became a changing factor in his career.

Dr Buho specialised in Dermatology/Gynaecology and Psychiatry, but this did not stop him from excelling in other medical departments, in the 80s, he was sent to Baidoa on a task to research and investigate an epidemic and rise in tropical ulcers. He also took part in a series of conferences in Jordan to research underlying causes of malnutrition in Africa. Another highlight of his career was taking part in the research team to investigate the health effects of Khaat (a stimulant drug that was prevalent in Somalia), this was under the reign of Siad Bare, when the prohibition of Khat was implemented nation wide.

The resilience and dedication of Dr Buho will forever be remembered in the history books of the Banadir People. The sacrifice and professionalism of a group of people who excelled in every field and opportunity given to them despite the obstacles they came across.
