Lonad caves are locates in Lonad village which can accessed via Bhiwandi and Kalyan
Lonad caves is a small group of ancient Buddhist rock cut caves from the 5th century.
The caves is now converted in to a temple but the carvings and inscriptions bear testimony to its Buddhist origins.The caves dates back to thousands of years ago in the history. These are Hindu caves with carvings of Shiva. Totally non touristic destination worth visiting.
The inscription of Vessantara Jataka is there on the main beam around a doorway of Lonad caves Bhiwandi. Vessantara Jataka is basically a tale regarding one of the past lives of Lord Buddha.
