Switchblade is a platformer developed by Gremlin Graphics and released for the Commodore 64 in 1991. In this action-packed game, you step into the boots of Hiro, the last of the bladeknight warriors, navigating the perilous Undercity to locate and reassemble the 16 fragments of the Fireblade and defeat the evil entity Havok

Gameplay challenges include exploring multi-screen labyrinths filled with ladders, platforms, traps, and hostile creatures, collecting weapon upgrades and hidden bonuses along the way

Notable for its NES-style aesthetic, Switchblade features excellent presentation with an animated intro and title screen, and one of Ben Daglish’s most memorable C64 soundtracks—it was reportedly his final work on the platform

Today, Switchblade is celebrated in the retro gaming community for its ambitious scope, atmospheric design, and technical achievement within C64 constraints—an enduring cult classic beloved by fans
