Also in the Supreme Court….thirty-five-year-old Bert Vasquez learnt his fate today for a second sexual assault case. Justice Colin Williams imposed the sentence ordering that it run consecutively with his previous ten-year conviction for the offense of forcible abduction, sexual assault, and harm against a sixteen-year-old minor, which was imposed on him by Justice Adolph Lucas back in July of 2017. At sentencing today, Justice Williams also set conditions. The convicted sex offender must get mandatory counselling, periodic half-year report must be done and he should not change his address, if and when, he gets out of court. In November of this year, a jury of nine persons stepped into the deliberating room and returned a guilty verdict for attempted rape of a sixteen-year-old girl, who is now twenty-three. The victim claims she took a ride from Vasquez and while inside his car, he asked her for a call. She gave him her phone and he said he had to go pick up a cousin and that is when he took her to a sea in the Belama area and locked her inside his vehicle then tried to rape her. She claimed he had a gun in a suitcase inside the vehicle and that he threatened to hurt her if she did not comply with his orders. She also claims that he began to undress her by placing a knife on the dashboard to frighten her, but he was interrupted when a vehicle drove up. The incident left the young woman traumatized. Vasquez is also pending trial for the murder of Jasmine Lowe.
