Oh! Susanna ~ Vernon Dalhart, Carson Robison, and Adelyne Wood (1927)

Описание к видео Oh! Susanna ~ Vernon Dalhart, Carson Robison, and Adelyne Wood (1927)

Here are #VernonDalhart, #AdelynHood, and #CarsonRobison doing another fine duet on a song which was composed by #StephenFoster. Carson and Vernon, along with #JimmieRodgers and #TheCarterFamily, were responsible for bringing “hillbilly” music to the mainstream. This was released on #Victor 21169 #78rpm in 1927. This is the “A” side to “When the Sun Goes Down Again.” Be forewarned that this does contain what would now be termed a racially insensitive term. I don't like it, nor do I endorse it, but it is a part of history. I'm also just as offended by the use of the word in hip-hop music. Carson had the ability to adapt to whatever era he was in and still be enjoyable-his music never seems dated, something you can't say about a lot of artists. Carson is remembered these days for his #MGM hit, “Life Gets Tee-jus,” and a couple of follow up recordings in that vein. He did several World War 2 numbers spoofing Hitler and Hirohito and discussing the war effort in general. If all you know of Carson is his novelty numbers and his MGM releases, might I suggest looking up more of his early work that he did with #FrankLuther, #VernonDalhart, and other artists of that era?

I appreciate the music publishers for allowing these little heard gems to stay on my channel. I'm not trying to make money here or step on anybody's toes with copyright infringement. If there's ever a problem with anything I upload, I will be more than happy to take it down. I'm a collector who has amassed close to 50,000 songs on my computer, and I like to share things that are not heard too often. I imagine the majority of what I post isn't even on CD or any other digital format. I have taken time to digitally restore these from the original records; you might hear a stray click or pop here and there, but for the most part, these sound really good. If a recording is a bit below par, please rest assured I have done the best I can do with it-you can't always get them perfect. If you enjoy what I'm uploading, why don't you take a minute and click on the “subscribe” button? Thanks and God bless ya!
