It is the only Art Nouveau building in the city with Assyrian motifs in decoration.
Among the decorative elements used, there are antique and ancient Eastern scenes.
Unusual for northern modernism is the absence of decorative plaster or facing stone on the facades; the gray color of cement visually adds monumentality and gloom to the building.
The house provided 88 apartments for shareholders and 16 additional ones in the attic, all of them had from three to seven rooms and an area from 110 to 270 m². Even at the development stage, each member of the residents' association received a project for their apartment and could make changes to the layout or pay extra for more expensive finishing.
The Basin Partnership complex was conceived as advanced, progressive housing; the buildings were equipped with the latest technology - they installed elevators, a ventilation system, hot water supply and heating, a vacuum cleaner station, and planned laundries with mechanical drying machines. The attic floor was a public space, where residents' meetings were supposed to be held.
After 1917, the house was made communal; to “compact” large apartments were divided by partitions into several small ones, as a result of which some did not have their own kitchen, while others did not have a bathroom!

Starting from Vosstaniya Square and Moskovsky Station, we will explore the beautiful architecture and history of this stunning city. Our walk will take place mainly along Greek Avenue, where we will look into interesting cafes and shops.
