A vintage brass syringe type garden sprayer professionally repurposed into a beautiful, decorative, mains electric table lamp. Originally made in the 1940s or maybe 1950s in Birmingham by the respected maker W.T. French and Son at their Mysto works in Ladywood. As a sprayer, it had two interchangeable nozzles, the spare being kept on a mounting on the side of the cylinder. When I bought it, it had the build-up of grime that you would expect for 70+ years in a garden shed!
I have cleaned and polished the brass body and fittings to gleam before carefully converting it into the lamp you see pictured, running the wiring up through the body and using the spare nozzle and mounting to solder on a brass tube which in turn holds the lampholder. The plunger has been shortened so it cannot chafe the internal wiring. Of course, I have used only quality new electrical parts, including a solid brass lampholder, for safety. The base is made from an offcut of a rough sawn oak plank which I have planed, sanded and French polished to give a lovely finish and incorporated a toggle switch for the lamp into it.
The bulb in the photos is a 4.5w spiral filament LED G80 globe with an ES (E27) fitting and will be supplied with the lamp. Two metres of luxury black period look braided 3 core flex fitted with a black plug with the correct 3-amp fuse complete the lamp.
