This is the full run of my solo, all-bow, no HUD “Desperate Measures” Lightfall campaign mission on Master difficulty (capped at 20 Power below recommended) during Season 20. I completed it with 84 deaths across four attempts over two streams, but only died five times during THIS run. I’m very proud to say I beat it completely legit and without the Calus fight cheese.

Difficulty: Up to the Calus fight, the mission isn’t that difficult comparatively once you get an understanding of enemy movement and spawns. In the first three encounters, there’s enough space and cover to maneuver safely enough. The ally Cabal outside the Vault definitely helped (even took down the Tormentors). The Calus fight on the other hand… It’s probably the hardest boss fight I’ve done second to The Lightblade GM. It was TOUGH. There was very little downtime or protection from enemy fire, which came from all angles, and due to the Solar burn, everything hurt. The BIGGEST issue I faced was heavy ammo economy. I couldn’t take down most enemies fast enough with my primary bows, and I didn’t have enough heavy ammo to use on enemies on the platforms, so I spent most of my time running in circles, going invis with finishers on the Psions, and hoping for ammo. I did not use Devour because I couldn’t create enough Orbs or kill enemies fast enough to justify it. I tried many builds, but settled on Graviton Forfeit for the extended invisibility.

Champions: It contained Unstoppable and Barrier Champions. I used Leviathan’s Breath (intrinsically Unstop) on the Unstoppables, and used Volatile Rounds from my Void energy bow (with “Volatile Flow” Artifact mod) to stun the Barriers. I chose not to use Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk, so the only way to get Volatile Rounds was by picking up an Orb of Power (Volatile Flow). The two primary issues I ran into were getting the enemy kill to make an Orb before the ally Cabal could kill them first, and being exposed long enough to pop the Barrier shield and get the kill before the enemies killed me. I went Platinum up to the boss fight, but chose to forgo killing those Champs because it was too risky.

This run was done fully on stream in one sitting. Multiple sections were edited out (breaks, talking to chat), but no actual gameplay was missed.

Fun Fact
My favorite line of dialogue in the mission is when Caiatl says “We are Cabal. We eat the mountains, we drink the seas.” Since it’s said at the beginning of one of the encounters, and I had to restart at that encounter DOZENS of times throughout my attempts, I started to add a bit of poetic flair to the end:

We are Cabal. We eat the mountains, we drink the seas.
~ We huff the clouds and climb the trees. ~
