Описание к видео whisper ASMR 💚 ‘80s jewelry trend spotting 🔍 vintage magazine flip through on iPad

Join me to on a journey back to the 1980s, a decade of tanned skin, huge hair, and gigantic geometric studs. In this 4 hour ASMR video, we’ll be looking at the jewelry in two 1980s magazines and assessing each year’s jewelry trends. These magazines have it all: glitzy watches, working women posing with phones, blue eyebrows, and an absolutely staggering number of oversized studs.

First, we’ll flip through the October 1984 issue of Vogue, which has the lovely Brooke Shields on the cover. Then, we’ll look through the February 1988 issue of Vogue, which has the lovely Cindy Crawford as the cover model. This is a digital magazine flip through, so I’ll be using an iPad to browse the magazines. These magazines are on the Vogue Archive, which is available to digital Vogue subscribers and I believe can also be viewed for free with a library card.

This video is mostly whispering, but also has some iPad tapping and tracing, as well as light road noise.

COMPARING TO 2024 JEWELRY TRENDS 3:55:00

This is mostly for my own reference, but here are the jewelry trends seen in these two magazines:

October 1984 jewelry trends: large studs (generally domed or geometric), long pearl necklaces, layered pearls, geometric shapes (bold/oversized and simple, not really patterned like Art Deco jewelry often is), star motifs, beaded tassels, two-toned (yellow gold + silver) jewelry & watches, rich gold tones, black and white and pearls, metal mesh, earrings that match the color of your outfit, necklaces layered in clothes (example: over sweater but under collar), large bangles (especially domed, often stacked), large cuffs, halo and double halo settings, triangles, bracelets and watches over gloves, a noticeable lack of hoop earrings

February 1988 jewelry trends: large studs (still going strong), large scale geometric shapes (simple, not patterned), abstract modern shapes, structural silver, clear jewelry (plastic?), hoop earrings, richly colored yellow gold, dangling open circle shapes on earrings, roped textures, door knocker earrings, sequined earrings, earrings that match outfit (matchy matchy), large bangles, bracelet stacks (especially with bangles), rows of domes (is there a name for this?), frosted clear jewelry, halo settings, studs with gold inner part and dark outer park (like a gold circle framed by a black square), two tone jewelry (gold + silver, gold + black), dramatic reduction in pearls compared to 1984, asymmetrical earring styling (no earring + statement earring), swirls
