ELMHURST, IL - (JLN) - May 7, 2025 - For Dan Carter, chief executive officer of the risk management software company KRM22, controlling risk isn’t just about drawing boundaries; it's about flying the plane from the cockpit, with every gauge, dial, and alert at your fingertips. “Our vision for the cockpit was the ‘fly in the plane’ type dashboard,” Carter explained in a recent video interview, “so a chief risk officer or compliance officer can have a single, data-driven place that gives them warnings around risk.”

Carter’s company splits its universe into two realms: trading risk, governed by its limits and risk manager products, and corporate risk, managed by its surveillance offerings. The latest ambition? Giving firms a real-time, panoramic management view: “If you’ve got the limits world, the risk world, and the surveillance world all configured, you can drive that data up into the cockpit to give you the real view,” said Carter.

A recent contract win with a futures commission merchant (FCM) validated the approach. “We had already deployed our limits manager application…and the application allows firms to control workflows around limit management,” Carter said. “Now we’re able to integrate real-time risk metrics into the ticket for each limit change.” With features like audit trails and the ability to rank accounts by blended risk scores, Carter noted, “the feedback from those clients…has been great.”

Growth, as Carter sees it, is about configurability and multi-asset expansion. “We’re still quite small as a technology firm, but what we’re building is a sort of best-in-class risk system for the industry,” he said. KRM22 aims to go from exchange-traded derivatives into equities, FX, and fixed income, an ambitious journey for a modest-sized player.

Artificial intelligence is also finding its place in KRM22’s arsenal. “In surveillance, we’re using AI models to help around data analytics,” Carter said. These systems can now flag “near misses,” picking up on subtle patterns regulators want scrutinized. On the risk side, storing long-term data enables not just historical analysis but predictive analytics for future performance.

What’s the endgame? “Our role as a technology vendor is to create the tools needed by the risk managers who know what they’re doing,” Carter said. KRM22 isn’t out to dictate how firms manage risk, but to give every firm its own cockpit, ready to navigate whatever turbulence the market brings. “We’re there to provide the tools that allow them to do risk management how they want, effectively and in an efficient manner.” That cockpit view has never been more coveted than in today's volatile world.
