In 2023 the Norwegian news outlet VG published this video footage, originally from October 24, 2022. The footage shows the arrest of undercover Russian GRU officer by the Norwegian PST (Police Security Service).

According to research performed by investigative journalist Christ Grozev, he was born on August 19, 1978 and studied at the Russian GRU (Military Intelligence) academy, indicating that he was a Colonel of the GRU, operating in the "illegals" (meaning without diplomatic cover) programme of the GRU. Grozev also discovered that he traveled back to Russia in June 2015 and June 2020.

His real name is, reportedly, Mikhail Valeryevich Mikushin (Михаил Валерьевич Микушин) but in Norway he arrived in 2021 under a fake identity. Pretending to be a Brazilian national named José Assis Giammaria.

Before that, in 2015, under the same false identity he applied (and was accepted) at the University of Calgary in Ottawa, Canada, where he attended the Alberta school and graduated in the fall of 2018 with a Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with his field of expertise being International Relations.

He subsequently, volunteered to join Arctic University (UiT) in Tromsø, Norway as a visiting researcher at the Centre for Peace Studies (CPS).

The Norwegian PST arrested him (footage published) on Oct. 24, 2022 while he was walking to his workplace in the UiT.

On December 14, 2023 he confessed that he's Russian and his real name is Mikhail Valeryevich Mikushin in a court hearing. The case is still ongoing at the time of the publication of this video.
