The swan pair was only the cob swan today. A cob swan is the male swan. Just for reference, they call a female swan a pen. I assume the female or pet swan is busy preparing a next. While this pen swan continues his routine of eating and patrolling their territory. This Dutch canal is actually more like a drainage ditch, but also that is there wrong word. It’s not really a canal, for no boat traffic goes through here. These were created to drain the water away from the higher parts where the houses or fields are. Yet they were made quite wide a relatively deep, so there is a host of plant and fish life in them and of course bird life too. Like this healthy mute swan!
