On November 20, 2020 Tarjei Sandvik Moe did two radio interviews, the first at NRK P3Morgen and the second at the Nitimen radio show. While on P3Morgen Tarjei admitted he had started writing poetry a week before, and in typical TJ fashion, was brave enough to read it on the radio!

I have created this video of him reading his poem, called “Destination,” after evakcardamom on Tumblr very graciously translated it for us. (Tusen takk!! 🙏🏼❤️) Full text below.

Tarjei would not explain the poem to the hosts on P3Morgen, preferring to be mysterious 😆 but in his later interview on Nitimen, he explained he had recently been reading about Arctic explorers, specifically the ones that made it to the North Pole but died on the return journey. It seems to me this poem and those explorers are linked, but you can be the judge. Enjoy! 😊

Destination

Through blizzards
King mountains
Ice tigers
Frost lions
Fog-blowing dragons where claim is a sight
Forced to shuffle the dice
Rolling the cards I do not know what to discover
but continue to bite your toes together chrome teeth keep your stomach ice in the breath
Stronger volume
Higher light
Can we get clarity soon
I'm getting young and my daughter is so old
She carries me on her shoulders
While I sleep
Always think I'm going for something new
To wake up and the pillow turns
Now everything is drowning
I'm melting
