Описание к видео Number 7 of The Best Tourist Sites in Rome - Imperial Fora

Number 7 of the best Tourist sites in Rome is the Imperial Fora. As the Roman Republic faded and the Empire rose, Rome itself was transformed. Power was no longer shared among senators but concentrated in the hands of emperors—and stone, marble, and space became tools of authority. Nowhere is this more visible than in the Imperial Fora, a sequence of grand public squares built beside the old Roman Forum between the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD.
Each forum was not just a place—it was a political statement.
The First Imperial Forum, known as the Forum of Caesar, was built by Julius Caesar in 46 BC. By the mid–1st century BC, the old Roman Forum was overcrowded. Julius Caesar, fresh from victory in the civil war, decided to build something new. He purchased land near the Forum and created the Forum of Caesar, a long rectangular plaza dominated by the Temple of Venus Genetrix, the mythical ancestor of the Julian family. This was deliberate:
Caesar was telling Rome that his power was divinely sanctioned.
The forum served legal and administrative purposes, but above all, it anno unced a new reality:
Rome would now be shaped by individuals, not institutions.
Caesar was assassinated shortly after, but the precedent was set for other forums, such as Augustus and the Forum of Augustus in 2 BC, Vespasian and the Forum of Peace, Domitian and Nerva: The Forum of Nerva in AD 97, Trajan and the Greatest Forum of All, Forum of Trajan in AD 112.
