U.S. history. Megan Huntsman, a Utah woman, was convicted for her newborn babies between
1996 and 2006 and for hiding them.
Key Details of the Case -
• In April 2014, Huntsman’s estranged husband, Darren West, was cleaning out their former home in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He found a box and called the police immediately after discovering something. Authorities searched the garage and discovered the remains in wrapped in towels and placed in boxes.
• Motive: Huntsman later confessed that she did it immediately after birth because she didn’t want more children. She was struggling with drug addiction (methamphetamine use) and claimed she couldn’t handle raising more kids.
• Husband’s Role: Darren West was initially suspected, but police determined that he had no knowledge of the murders. He had been in prison for drug-related charges during some of the years in question
• Sentencing: In April 2015, Huntsman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six terms of 5 years to life in prison, to be served consecutively.

• How did no one notice? Huntsman already had three daughters, and no one realized she had multiple pregnancies that ended with missing babies.
• Why didn’t she give them up for adoption? She never sought help or tried to place them for adoption, despite knowing she couldn’t care for them.
