Get paid to help care for your loved ones! The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) is a program that is offered through Medicaid and is specific to New York state (in the US). The program is called differently in other states, such as the IHSS program in California.

👨‍⚕️As a full-time practicing physician in New York City, I see patients with this service first-hand! My opinion is that it’s quite valuable to have a family member who accompanies their loved ones to hospital and clinic visits, to hear updates and then help facilitate care at home (while getting paid for it). This program can encourage higher quality care at home and help people have more quality time with their loved ones.

✅Patients typically qualify for Medicaid, meaning are lower-income individuals
✅Friends, children, and relatives can qualify to be caregivers
✅Compensation ranges from minimum wage and up
