Описание к видео Creating “personal space” for your identity | Joel Nishimura | TEDxASUWest

Have you ever pushed an identity on to someone else without realizing its consequences? Everyone has a different relationship with their identity, and in this talk, Joel Nishimura illustrates how varying degrees of identity affirmation can have giant impacts on underrepresented communities. Dr. Joel Nishimura is an Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at Arizona State University. As an applied mathematician, Dr. Nishimura investigates how simple ingredients can combine to create systems with complex mathematical structure. Meanwhile, as a person of mixed race, he has always been interested in exploring the ambiguity of identity. Dr. Nishimura grew up in Pacific Northwest and earned his PhD in upstate New York at Cornell University. He now lives in Arizona with his wife, two daughters, and dog.
