Following a reported surge in Islamophobic incidents after the Bondi antisemitic terror attack, Muslim community members in New South Wales have begun sleeping overnight inside mosques to prevent vandalism and ensure safety.

At Minto Mosque in south-west Sydney, additional security measures have been put in place after threats and intimidation targeting Islamic places of worship. Mosque committee members say the decision to stay overnight reflects growing fear within the community.

According to reports seen by Australian Broadcasting Corporation, there has been a sharp increase in Islamophobic abuse, vandalism, and threats against mosques and Islamic organisations since December 14.

The Australian National Imams Council stated that its Action Against Islamophobia initiative recorded an almost 200% rise in anti-Muslim hate incidents following the attack. At least nine mosques and Islamic centres have reported vandalism or serious security threats requiring police intervention.
