But the move prompted criticism from consumer advocates and other airlines, which argued the alliance hadn’t been studied enough before it received federal approval. Many of the concerns centered around the increasing consolidation of the airline industry. Both American Airlines’ and JetBlue’s stock prices slid on Tuesday ahead of the lawsuit announcement, which The Wall Street Journal first reported was imminent Tuesday morning.
