From the 2025 Pediatric Transplant Conference, part of National Pediatric Transplant Week and National Donate Life Month.

This session will focus on the immediate post-transplant time in the hospital after a kidney transplant. It will help to prepare families for their child's eventual transition home after transplant. Our experts will explain immediate post-op procedures, such as the removal of drainage tubes, and potential temporary support measures. They will then focus on "nesting," an important in-hospital training where caregivers learn how to administer medications and perform many post-transplant care procedures. The session will also cover discharge planning and follow-up care, ensuring the family feels confident and supported when the recipient and caregiver transition home.
