Описание к видео Storm Footage from Lofoten, Norway

This week we had several storms come through Lofoten. I had originally intended to shoot a hiking film, but as the wind was often too strong to leave the camera on a tripod, and sometimes too strong to even stay upright, I decided to try and capture some of the weather for you guys.

It's fascinating how much force there is in the wind. There were a few places I wanted to shoot, but I was unable to, either because the roads were full of debris or I simply wasn't able to get safely out of the car.

A quick note on safety: In general I don’t recommend people to go out and watch extreme weather like this. In my opinion the only exceptions are if you can do so safely and doing so will help you gather knowledge that you can use later in an unplanned situation. I’ve been to these areas before, so I knew I would be safe from waves and falling trees.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is that they venture too close to the waves. The largest waves come in sets, with 5-25 minutes between each set. So when people think that they know where it’s safe to walk, there’s suddenly a bigger wave coming. Down low, in front of the waves and especially on piers and breakwaters is a no go! It is also wise to stay away from large trees, and pay extra attention to man made objects like signs, roofing and other objects that can get loose and fly off.
