Описание к видео Boston resident worried over court flag ruling

(2 May 2022)
RESTRICTION SUMMARY:
ASSOCIATED PRESS
Boston – 2 May 2022
1. Medium of the Boston City Hall, with the U.S., Massachusetts and City of Boston flags flying in front of the building
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Shiran Weber, Boston Resident:
"All right. I'm Shiran Weber, live in, uh, Boston, Roslindale. And I work at a condo down the street."
3. Wide of the Boston City Hall and federal, state and city flags
4. Screen grab of The Associated Press story about Supreme Court ruling that Boston violated the free speech rights of a conservative activist when it refused his request to fly a Christian flag on a flagpole outside City Hall
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Shiran Weber, Boston Resident:
"So, I actually only partially disagree with it. However, I understand the intent behind it. In over 200 instances, the, the city subjected... there was no quality control behind the, every flag raising that took place here until this particular flag. And that just shows like a lack of consistency."
6. Close up of signage on the Boston City Hall
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Shiran Weber, Boston Resident:
"I mean, if you just think about it in terms of Boston, no. But it's gonna have far-reaching consequence, consequences in other state capitals and government buildings. You know, if other kinds of speech, you know, that already kind of blur that line between separation of church and state are now allowed to do whatever they want because, by this ruling, they might be able to do that, just a full endorsement of religion."
8. Tilt-up view of the flags outside Boston City Hall
9. SOUNDBITE (English) Shiran Weber, Boston Resident:
"It sounds like the person behind this particular flag was, was behind, not behind, sorry, but was involved in the January 6 protest and anti-Biden. Also 911 truth stories. So, again, I understand the Supreme Court's decision, but in this particular scenario, I wouldn't approve of the flag myself."
10. Flags outside the Boston City Hall
STORYLINE:
A unanimous Supreme Court has ruled that Boston violated the free speech rights of a conservative activist when it refused his request to fly a Christian flag on a flagpole outside City Hall.
Justice Stephen Breyer wrote for the court Monday that the city discriminated against the activist because of his "religious viewpoint," even though it had routinely approved applications for the use of one of the three flagpoles outside City Hall that fly the U.S., Massachusetts and Boston flags.
Occasionally, the city takes down its own pennant and temporarily hoists another flag.
Boston resident Shiran Weber is conflicted by the ruling.
"So, I actually only partially disagree with it. However, I understand the intent behind it. In over 200 instances, the, the city subjected... there was no quality control behind the, every flag raising that took place here until this particular flag. And that just shows like a lack of consistency," Weber says.
Is the court ruling earth shattering?
"I mean, if you just think about it in terms of Boston, no. But it's gonna have far-reaching... consequences in other state capitals and government buildings. You know, if other kinds of speech, you know, that already kind of blur that line between separation of church and state are now allowed to do whatever they want because, by this ruling, they might be able to do that – just a full endorsement of religion," Weber says.
Activist Harold Shurtleff and his Camp Constitution wanted to fly a white banner with a red cross on a blue background in the upper left corner called the Christian flag.
