Pacific Ocean Perch | Creatures of the Deep: Mini Bites

Описание к видео Pacific Ocean Perch | Creatures of the Deep: Mini Bites

Might be wishful thinking, but did that Pacific Ocean perch (Sebastes alutus) just wave at us? At a depth of 395 m our Barkley Canyon camera caught a glimpse of these fish also known as Pacific rockfish, rose fish, red bream or red perch.

There is quite a bit of mystery around the early life of these fish. Identifying specific rockfish larval species can be difficult as many share similar characteristics. It is thought the larvae might be pelagic and drift along with ocean currents, making them the living embodiment of "just go with the flow." Although this sometimes results in fish being born in areas that aren't optimal for the species, so the jury’s still out on whether or not that's a good motto to live by.
