Born as the son of American parents in Alsace, Pete "Wyoming" Bender was raised in the USA and played saxophone, drums and guitar in in a high school band. He ended up in Germany in 1962 when his father's army posting was transferred to Munich. He was the singer of The Flaming Stars in 1964.
