Sardine / Mathi curry Recipe is an age old recipe that has been passed on to people from generations . Mathi curry is an easy recipe to prepare authentic and traditional Kerala style sardine fish curry / Mathi curry recipe. You can take it as a side dish with Kappa (Tapioca) / hot Kerala rice / Pathiri / Porotta / Appams. Sardine, (popularly known as Mathi, Chaala in Kerala), is one the cheapest, popular and the tastiest fish available in South India.
In earlier times, this Mathi curry was cooked in an earthen pot and that tradition is still going on.
The taste that the simple cooking of an earthen pot renders is so village-like and gives that authentic feel, bringing back the memories of a country kitchen. You can make the Mathi curry in a kadai as well, if you do not own an earthen pot to cook in. You can boil, reheat and use the recipe for 2 days.

Kerala Fish Curry is a dish which has a separate fan base. The very popular Meen Mulakittathu, also known as Kottayam Style Meen Curry is an all time favourite of any food lover. This hot, spicy and tangy side dish is the best when cooked in an earthen pot. It is usually served the next day of preparation. It is a choicest dish to be served with rice meals and can be incorporated with Chappathis and Parottas as well. This dish is prepared with Kudampuli (Kokum Star) and so its also called Kudampuliyitta Fish Curry.

Sardines - 1/2 kg
Shallots - 8
ginger garlic chopped-1tspn
Fenugreek Seeds- 1/4 Tspn
Kashmiri Chili POwder- 2 Tbspn
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tspn
Green Chilies - 2
KudamPuli - 4 pieces
Curry leaves - 2 Sprigs
coconut oil-1Tbsp
Salt
