On December 16th, 2023, officers in Ohio responded to a call reporting a hit-and-run incident. On arriving at the scene, officers spoke with the victim. He explained that after coming off the exit, a white BMW in front of him blocked the intersection, and another vehicle that had a green light honked at the BMW. The BMW then reversed and struck the victim’s vehicle in the front bumper before fleeing the scene. Officers gathered initial statements that pointed them to a suspect’s vehicle, which was described as significantly distinct due to notable paint transfers evident from the collision.

Following the initial investigation, officers traced the vehicle to a nearby residence where the suspect was located. The interaction with the suspect revealed signs of possible impairment, including slurred speech and difficulty maintaining balance. The suspect's responses during the conversation with law enforcement were inconclusive and displayed a dismissive attitude towards the incident. Despite multiple opportunities to clarify the events, the suspect’s recollections remained inconsistent with the evidence gathered from the scene.

The suspect was ultimately detained after failing to comply with standard sobriety tests, which further supported the officers' suspicions of driving under the influence. After a thorough examination and the suspect's refusal to perform field sobriety tests, the law enforcement concluded their investigation, leading to the arrest. The suspect was charged with Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI), OVI - (0.08 to 0.17 BAC), and Failure to Stop After an Accident.
