Alaska is amazing! Save this for your travel bucket list and Alaska trip planning. Some of the top things we recommend for a visit to Anchorage & surrounding areas-
1. Visit @eaglerivernaturecenter and hike the trails for beautiful scenery & watch for bears!
2. Hike to Thunderbird Falls
3. Drive to @denalinps and stop in the charming small town Talkeetna along the way for Denali views on a clear day, lunch at a local brewery, and shopping for souvenirs
4. Take a picnic to Eklutna Lake and rent kayaks or just relax on the beach in the serene setting. Playing in the stream that fed into the lake was a highlight for our kids!
5. Hike the challenging uphill Flattop Trail in @chugachstatepark for scenic views of Anchorage and the Chugach Mountains or take the short and easy paved loop at the base
6. Visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center to learn about native culture and traditions
7. Drive the absolutely stunning scenic Seward Highway from Anchorage to Seward and stop along the way at Turnagain Arm- Beluga Point for breathtaking views & possibly spot beluga whales. Alternatively, take the @alaskarailroad along this scenic route if you don’t want to drive.
8. Stop in Girdwood and hike the Alyeska Northface Trail and take the aerial tram down the mountain (it’s free to come down)
9. Visit @akwildlife the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to see rescued bears, moose, elk, reindeer, porcupines, and more. Our kids loved this!
10. Take a helicopter glacier landing tour. We went with @marathonhelicopters and got to play in the snow on a glacier and see gorgeous landscapes from above.
11. Take a full-day cruise in the Kenai Fjords National Park with @majormarinetours to see glaciers, whales, otters, seals, and more up close.
12. Hike to Exit Glacier in the @kenaifjordsnps. This is one of the few active glaciers that you can get so close to by hiking.
