1980 Star Wars Snowtrooper Restoration - Vintage Toy Retrobrighting, Kenner Storm Trooper Repair

This video is the first of a new series: Star Wars Vintage Toys Restoration and Repairs. The first victim of my experiments is a yellowed snowtrooper. The treatment: Hydrogen peroxide and a lot of UV light! The plastic in Star Wars Kenner figures (as with many vintage toys) tends to get yellowed with time. This is due to a combination of bromide, a fire retardant substance that gets mixed in with the plastic, and thermal oxidation, or exposure to heat and oxygen. The process CAN be reverted, however. You just need hydrogen peroxide and UV light, a process commonly referred to as "retrobrighting". I used a home-made UV light chamber - you can make your own, see the link below. Alternative sources to LED strips are UV lamps and reptile UV lights.
