Woodturning firewood Maple vase with red dye Pt. 1 of 3

Woodturning a piece of Maple firewood I thought might have some figure. I decided to try using just red dye to bring out the figure. I used a darker application of red dye for the first round of applying the dye. The second was a bit lighter. I still have a section of this log, that I will try using black dye and red dye to see the difference that will make.

For the finish, I just used multiple coats of boiled linseed oil mixed with shellac.
