Efficient concrete building design requires an in-depth understanding of how different elements of the structure interact to create an efficient system that is constructible. System behavior is seldom taught and yet is essential to the design of concrete buildings. This seminar gives the basics behind the design of high-rise concrete buildings with an emphasis on seismic design. Building analysis and design are presented through case studies. Material property selection and advantages of high strength steel and concrete are discussed. Finally, the importance of detailing and constructability are illustrated through construction photos and videos.
