I always wrap a pint of ice cream with a piece of paper towel to keep my hand from freezing, but I do leather work, so let’s make a leather ice cream sleeve and I’ll show you how I adjust the size of a sleeve in the process. A standard Starbucks sleeve is too small but has the right arcs to work as a sleeve. So I start by tracing the top curve and then slide it over and continue the line to widen it. Then I trace the side angle of the sleeve and extend that all the way down. Then I mark where the two bottom edges meet and align the top curve to each mark and mark the bottom arc. Typically, you’d add ¼ inch to the width of the template to account for the thickness of the leather but since we’re adding a spoon slot, we didn’t have to for this. And once cut out, you can see the gap that’s formed, which in this case we want. Then I just made the panel that will bridge the gap and create the spoon slot. Then I simply scored the stitch line, glued it in place, punched the stitching holes, and stitched it all up. And just like that I had a custom leather ice cream sleeve with a built-in spoon slot.
