National Road 5 (NR5) is a crucial artery in Cambodia’s transportation network, extending approximately 407 kilometers from Phnom Penh to the Thai border in Banteay Meanchey province. It serves as a primary route for both passenger and freight traffic, linking the capital with key provinces such as Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey.

In recent years, Cambodia has prioritized infrastructure development to bolster economic growth and connectivity. While specific information on current conditions or ongoing projects along NR5 is limited, the government’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure is evident through various initiatives. For instance, in September 2024, Cambodia partnered with South Korea to improve traffic management and road safety across the Kingdom (Khmer Times). Additionally, the government has allocated over $200 million for the completion of the “Border Ring Road,” aiming to enhance connectivity in border areas (Siem Reap Times).
