The fourth and final session of the 2022 Ohio State University Extension Beef Team’s Virtual Beef School was hosted via ZOOM on April 11th. Following a format different from Beef School sessions in the past, the evening was spent discussing and responding to questions that were asked by the listeners. Topics of discussion throughout the evening included mineral programs for the cow herd, concerns regarding vaccinations for breeding bulls, regenerative grazing concepts that include calves naturally weaning themselves, the economics of beginning a cow/calf operation today, concerns getting young and beginning farmers involved in the industry, diagnosing calving and early calf health issues, effectively utilizing EPDs in times of high feed costs, the impact of nutrition on calving issues, considerations for fall calving herds, the value of chelated minerals, the relationship between feet and leg issues and muddy conditions, and the planned and also potential upcoming beef cattle programs. Here and throughout the evening, OSU Extension Beef Field Specialist Garth Ruff moderates the questions and answers.
