UP Police carried out a surprise raid at the Meerut home of alleged drug trafficker Tasleem Khan on Friday, a day after arresting his son Shahbaz Khan and his aide Mohd Salman with 530 grams of hashish under the NDPS Act. During the raid, police did not find Tasleem but instead discovered a hidden 100-metre tunnel with a concealed entry inside the house. Investigators believe Tasleem, who is in his mid-50s, used the tunnel to escape moments before the police team arrived.

SSP Meerut Vipin Tada said Tasleem’s name came up during the interrogation of the arrested duo. He added that police have written to the Meerut Development Authority to inspect the house and that further action will be taken based on their report. The tunnel was found to stretch from Tasleem’s house to a nearby wedding venue. Officers believe the passage was used to move contraband.

The house has been sealed and forensic teams are examining the tunnel to identify possible exit routes and storage points. Police records show that Tasleem has used different methods in the past to evade arrest, including using children as couriers and once disguising himself as a person with disability and using a modified scooter.

Police claim that Tasleem has been running a family-operated narcotics network for more than three decades and that more than 50 criminal cases have been registered against him. Properties linked to him, worth crores of rupees, have been seized under the Gangster Act. He was arrested earlier in several cases but was released on bail and allegedly resumed the illegal trade.
