Описание к видео Santa Rosa Beach Used to be Called Hogtown !

Santa Rosa Beach used to be called Hogtown and here is why

Did you know Santa Rosa Beach and its stunning Hogtown Bayou were once nicknamed Hogtown all the way back to the 1700s and early 1800s? Massive herds of wild feral hogs roamed the dense forests and marshes around the bayou — so many that people from up to 50 miles away (even parts of Alabama) used the area as a free-range breeding ground for hogs and cattle. Few permanent settlers lived there then; it was basically a wild hog paradise with pigs snorting everywhere! In the late 1800s and early 1900s, entrepreneur Charles Cessna bought the land, developed it into a bustling steamboat port town called "Santa Rosa," complete with a general store, sugarcane syrup factory, cannery, hotel, churches, cottages, turpentine mills, and up to 1,200 residents at its peak. Steamboats from Pensacola and Mobile docked regularly, shipping lumber and goods worldwide. But economic shifts like citrus blight and timber decline turned it into a near-ghost town — locals even dismantled abandoned buildings for lumber!Today, Hogtown Bayou is still its official name — a pristine, photogenic spot for kayaking, fishing, paddleboarding, and spotting wildlife (thankfully no wild hogs anymore). It's fed by freshwater streams like Peach Creek, surrounded by preserved nature, and remnants of old steamboat history still wash up on shores. From oinking herds and steamboat boom to emerald beaches and chill vibes... but the real party animals are at Redd's Pub on 30A! Come hog the killer wings, burgers, cold brews, and epic entertainment with Redd the legendary Singing Bartender belting out over 400 songs while slinging drinks! Redd's Pub
