Introduced in October of 1962, the Riviera was initially a side project for GM head of design William L. Mitchell, and was intended to compete with the popular Ford Thunderbird. This was to be the ultimate personal luxury coupe. The exterior design resembled that of a coke bottle, with the middle of the body tapered and tucked-in. The interior is pure luxury, with big gauges, bucket seats in the front, and bucket style seats in the rear. There is also a center console for both the front and the rear seats. Chrome and be found inside and out, and on all corners of this mid 60’s jewel. Power brakes and power steering were standard features on all Rivieras. The Riviera took home Motor Trend’s Car of the Year in 1963. The first generation ran from 1963 to 1965, with only a slight change from 63’ to 64’, a hood ornament. This particular Riviera has the original 401 CID 6.6L Nailhead V8 and the super turbine 400 3 speed automatic transmission with only 37,861 actual miles. This driveline was capable of a 0-60 MPH time of less than 8 seconds and a top speed of 115 MPH.
