~1800 km (~1100 miles) single tank range test with Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI :: [1001cars]

Volkswagen claims that Passat 2.0 TDI (140 kW / 190 HP) DSG uses 4.1-4.2 l/100 km (68.9 mpg UK, 57.4 mpg US) in extra-urban conditions. With 66 liters fuel tank it should allow to drive ~1600 km (~1000 miles) without refueling. I decided to check it! I prepared ~1600 km trip on Poland's roads: from Warsaw to Baltic sea (Gdynia) to Poland's mountains (Zakopane) and come back to Warsaw. Finally I drove 1605 km (997 miles) and still have 180 km (112 miles) range! My total average fuel consumption was: 3.9 l/100 km (72.4 mpg UK, 60.3 mpg US).
