Japan Amaze In Their Home Olympics' Ski Jumping - Sapporo 1972 Winter Olympics

The ski jumping competitions were one of the most expected by the Japanese fans at the Sapporo 1972 Olympic Games.

Hosted at the newly built Olympic 70m Miyanomori hill, the K90 Individual event would mark Japanese Olympic Winter Games history.

After training repeatedly during the previous season, and winning three consecutive European tournaments, Yukio Kasaya was the host country's key hope for gold.

Most of the country came to a stop to watch Yukio Kasaya live to expectation and win Japan's first ever Olympic Winter Games gold medal.

The host nation's celebration became even more complete once the country guaranteed all three spots on the podium as Akitsugu Konno won the silver medal and Seiji Aochi took bronze. A historical Olympic moment for Japanese sport.
