The Gate Cars, or known also as the BU Cars, are the NYTM's oldest surviving and preserved cars in their line up of fleet, their bodies dating all the way back to 1904, and their fleet built by a number of different companies from that time period. These cars were built with perishable materials such as wood, which is what makes them such a task to maintain and keep in peak condition every time they are brought out for nostalgia runs. With their appearance at the Parade Of Trains 2022, you were able to ride these cars and sit in their cushioned early 20th century style seating while looking outside of open windows, making for a breezy free-feeling ride. You also had the option to stand within the train especially if you did not have a seat once you entered. You were not able to stand on the "porch" of the train cars as it was considered to be dangerous and risky even with personnel moderating the areas. These cars have a skinnier body build then all other cars that were present within the event, so they did not provide very much room for the many passengers that chose to ride them. There are only 3 cars total that are preserved in running condition, all 3 of which stay linked for any excursion trip they are sent on. #mtasubway
