Periphery - Select Difficulty ALBUM MEDLEY DRUM COVER. Matt Halpern is a groove god. This album is chalked full of well placed accents, interesting rhythms, and excellent dynamics. Below is a list of the song order and timing and my thoughts on each part.

Absolomb is an absolute fucking bomb of a song. The groove reminds me of old PI days and the emotion and melody of the song brings in the new Periphery sound. This is definitely one of the best off the album. Motormouth is another personal favorite, with a cohesive, interesting groove that rhythmically ties the whole band together. I love the heaviness and intensity. The Way The News Goes... has an amazing guitar riff with a hell of a lot of cymbal accents. Marigold has a catchy chorus and some very subtle bass drum variations in the following part that I enjoyed learning.

Prayer Position has a well written, almost breakdown style intro with a chorus that has oddly placed bass drum hits. This accenting gives the chorus a very strange feel, making the song stick out to my ears. The Price Is Wrong is a hell of an epic song, packed full of heavy, groovy parts that make me wanna scream along. The breakdown is so damn tasteful. My thoughts on Remain Indoors can be seen in the description of my full cover (linked above). Catch Fire was a bit too poppy for me but I still liked the groove and appreciated Periphery writing a love song.

Habitual Line-Stepper is another favorite of mine. The breakdown is simple and easy to headbang too and was one of the driving grooves that pushed me to make this medley. I love the emotional outro of the song. Flatline has the same emotional, intense outro type groove that I loved covering. Lune is such a pretty song and a perfect ending to such an incredible album.

Select Difficulty is a fantastically groovy, heavy, and diverse album, demonstrating Periphery's evolution as a band. There's a fair balance of new and old, pop an metal, and I cannot stop listening to this masterpiece of an album. I implore you to give Select Difficulty a listen.
