(15 Jan 2015) Thousands of people performed the Parachico dance on Thursday in the streets of the small southern Mexican town of Chiapa de Corzo.
Parachico is a century-old dance in honour of three Catholic saints: Saint Anthony Abbot, Saint Sebastian and Our Lord of Esquipulas.
Dancers wear carved wooden masks with a headdress, embroidered shawls and multicoloured ribbons.
They shake 'chinchines' (maracas) as they dance through the town.
75-year-old Bersain Barrientos Escobar has been a Parachico dancer for 70 years.
"I will continue until God says so and Saint Sebastian tells me 'you've made it this far, no more,'" Escobar said.
UNESCO named Parachicos an intangible cultural heritage in 2010.
